Just as they have done previously, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah have issued an ultimatum. Following the attack, the government made a wise choice in suspending the Indus Waters Treaty with Pakistan.

On Wednesday, India declared several measures aimed at sending a clear signal to Pakistan regarding its backing of cross-border terrorism. The government stated that the Indus Waters Treaty from 1960 would now be put on hold and that the integrated checkpoint at Attari would close immediately.
Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri addressed a special press conference after a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security and said Pakistani nationals will not be permitted to travel to India under the SAARC visa Exemption scheme.
The CCS meeting, lasting more than two hours, was presided over by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The Defence, Military, Naval, and Air Advisers at the Pakistani High Commission in New Delhi have been deemed persona non grata, and they must depart from India within one week.
He stated that the total number of personnel at the High Commissions will decrease to 30 from the present 55 due to additional cuts, with this change scheduled to take place by May 1, 2025.
“In light of the severity of this terrorist attack, the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) has approved the following actions: Implementation of the Indus Waters Treaty from 1960 will be suspended immediately until Pakistan unequivocally renounces its backing of cross-border terror activities. Effective right away, the integrated checkpoint at Attari will be shut down. Individuals holding proper documentation must use this crossing point to return before May 1, 2025,” stated Misri.
“Pakistani nationals will not be permitted to travel to India under the SAARC visa Exemption scheme. Any SPES visas issued in the past to Pakistani nationals are deemed cancelled. Any Pakistani national currently in India under SPES visa has 48 hours to leave India. The Defence, Military, Naval, and Air Advisors in the Pakistani High Commission in New Delhi are declared persona non grata. They have a week to leave India,” he added.
He stated that India plans to withdraw its Defense, Navy, and Air advisors from the Indian High Commission in Islamabad. “These positions at the respective High Commissions have been declared nullified,” Misri mentioned.
Misri stated that the CCS assessed the general security scenario and instructed all units to remain highly vigilant. The meeting concluded with a commitment to ensure that those responsible for the assault would face legal consequences, along with holding accountable anyone who supported them.
“Just as in the case of Tahawwur Rana’s recent extradition, India will remain relentless in pursuing individuals involved in terrorism or those who aided in making such acts feasible,” he stated.
Misri stated during the briefing to the CCS that the terrorist attack had connections across borders.
