The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has stated that they are fully prepared to administer a smooth Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) for this year starting tomorrow throughout Nigeria.
The examination will span one week and be conducted across approximately 887 centers nationally, involving at least 2 million participants.
Additionally, over 10,000 officials have been dispatched nationwide for this operation.
The Head of Public Affairs and Protocol of JAMB, Dr Benjamin Fabian, gave this assurance on Wednesday evening at an online media dialogue organised by the Education Writers’ Association of Nigeria (EWAN) to get the candidates and other stakeholders sensitise about the exercise.
According to Fabian, JAMB assigned candidates to exam centres based on their choice of exam towns during registration and no candidate was taken outside their choice towns.
Bola Tinubu allocates ₦50 billion to resolve issues with ASUU and other groups; 501 visually impaired students will take part in the 2025 UTME across Nigeria — JAMB. More than 60,000 educators are set to gather at an educational conference in Lagos.
He clarified that what could make any candidate to be taken outside their selected exam towns and which would be the nearest one can only be when the available centres have been filled up at the time of registration.
And each applicant must understand that their examination number, test materials, and additional information are generally linked to their designated exam centers. Attempting to take the exam at another location would be disadvantageous to them, which is why JAMB ensures candidates only write exams in their selected exam towns.
He further mentioned that the examination authority had thoroughly considered the requirements of candidates with special needs by waiving off the exam registration fees for them and offering essential assistance like complimentary transportation, meals, and lodging for those requiring such services during the test.
He additionally noted that candidates are consistently advised to arrive at their examination centers early enough to allow ample time for biometric verification and to take some time to unwind before their exams begin. He emphasized that the initial test is set for 8:00 am, contrary to widespread belief which suggests an earlier start time of 6:30 am throughout the nation.
However, Fabian mentioned that the technical issues encountered during the recent practice exam, which were intended to assess the readiness of the examination board and help participants acclimate to the computer-based testing format, have now been resolved. Therefore, there is no reason for concern.
At the beginning of the event, Mr. Mojeed Alabi, who chairs EWAN, emphasized the significance of the discussion, stating, “The UTME holds great importance since it serves as an entry examination for continued education within the nation and affects the lives of millions of students.”
He stated that EWAN will keep highlighting significant educational matters of public concern to ensure continuous progress. This approach aims to collectively advance both the education sector and the nation’s economy as new issues emerge.
He praised JAMB’s spokesperson for taking the time to join the discussion.
