Chief Samuel Ortom, the former governor of Benue State, has appealed to the residents of the state and everyone in general to take heed.

He similarly urged Nigerians to pray for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the governor of Benue State, Reverend Father Hyacinth Alia, and the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume. He hoped that God would bestow upon them divine wisdom to tackle and surmount the security issues plaguing both Benue State and Nigeria as a whole.

In a declaration dated and provided to the Daily Independent in Makurdi on Wednesday, Terver Akase, who serves as the media aide for the ex-governor, stated that alongside their prayers, citizens should request from God to reinstate tranquility and safety not only in Benue but also across various regions grappling with comparable assaults.

In the statement released to commemorate the ex-governor’s 64th birthday, Ortom mentioned that he wouldn’t be hosting any celebration due to the continuous assaults and murders of unarmed Benue residents.

He pointed out that because of these developments, he decided to mark his birthday as an opportunity to show support for the families and attack victims who have endured immense suffering.

As per Akase, “Chief Samuel Ortom, the former governor of Benue State, desires to convey his deep gratitude for the flood of good wishes and prayers extended to him by the residents of Benue and fellow citizens across Nigeria as they celebrate his 64th birthday today.”

“In view of the escalating invasion, assaults, and indiscriminate killings of unarmed Benue residents by Fulani militants in multiple local government regions, Chief Ortom has opted against hosting any celebrations or events. He intends instead to express his support for the survivors and the families affected by these brutal acts.”

The ex-Governor offers his most sincere condolences to all the families impacted and encourages the residents of Benue to keep praying intensely for those who have suffered. He appeals to everybody to implore divine assistance to halt the bloodshed and bring back tranquility and safety not only to the state but also across various regions of the nation.

“Chief Ortom also enjoins the people to pray for the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu; the Governor of Benue State, Hyacinth Alia, and the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume.
