Two of the leading voices for progressive climate justice are
Congress
have been caught using a fuel-thirsty private aircraft.

Rep.
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez
, D-N.Y., and self-described Democratic socialist Sen.
Bernie Sanders
, I-Vt., were filmed by
Fox News
embarking on a privately owned, $15,000-per-hour chartered aircraft for transportation to various events
‘Fighting Oligarchy’ tour
.

The aircraft also comes with a substantial cost, with prices for different models varying from $5 million to $7 million.

According to the report, Sanders and AOC boarded the luxurious Bombardier Challenger jet in
California
On Tuesday afternoon following a speech at a campaign event in Bakersfield.

However, their choice to utilize a private jet goes against remarks they previously made criticizing superfluous activities that contribute to pollution.

“How many private jets do these CEOs require?” asked AOC in 2023 while criticizing Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav amid union strikes disrupting the film sector.

“It is unquenchable. It is intolerable. I cannot comprehend how anyone could claim they require an additional $100 million before someone else can receive healthcare,” Ocasio-Cortez, who is 35 years old, stated at that moment.

In March, AOC criticized how Republicans aren’t addressing

Tax reductions for private aircraft.

‘I can’t help but appreciate the irony from the left,’ wrote X user Wayne Dunlap regarding the progressives’ travels. ‘ Bernie fights oligarchy,’ he continued, ‘one private jet ride courtesy of his billionaire backers at a time.’

A different X user commented: “It’s ironic how people advocating for equality often use private jets. Genuine transformation arises from policies that support diligent American workers rather than insincere displays of moral superiority.”

Journalist Kyle Becker shared the following: ‘

Noted environmental advocate Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez deplanes from a private jet on Earth Day. How does this align with her commitment to protecting the environment?

Conservative pundit Liz Churchill responded: “Communists are showing us yet again that climate change is a hoax, just look at Bernie Sanders and AOC arriving in their private plane.”

Although he hasn’t spoken out extensively about his stance on private jets, Sanders has strongly advocated for environmental issues such as “The Green New Deal.”

The proposal, which did not manage to secure sufficient backing in Congress, aimed at overhauling regulations related to carbon emissions and the production of fossil fuels.

‘Sharing the view that climate change poses the biggest challenge to our Earth,’ Sanders tweeted on X in 2016.

Nevertheless, Sanders notably traveled extensively via private plane during his 2020 presidential run, with expenses surpassing $1.9 million.

According to a
2021 Transport and Environment report
, private aircraft pollute 14 times more than commercial planes.

It found that just one percent of people make up 50 percent of global aviation emissions.

So far this fiscal year, Sanders has expended almost $250,000 on personal air travel, as reported in Federal Election Commission documents.

The revelations show that Sanders’ campaign fund, Friends of Bernie Sanders, has expended over $221,000 during the initial three months of 2025.

However, AOC was also seen last month boarding a commercial flight for a tour event.

She traveled first-class with JetBlue from New York to Las Vegas and then addressed a large audience in Sin City, as reported by the New York Post.

Neither the office of Ocasio-Cortez nor that of Sanders responded to Linkstoday.online’s request for comment.
