MINNA
– Committed to curbing crime and illegal activities, the Niger State Police Command announced that they have apprehended the main suspect involved in manslaughter in the Fadikpe area near the western bypass in Minna, the state capital.
This comes amid the state government imposing a curfew from 6 pm to 6 am for commercial motorcycle riders and tricycle operators. Additionally, individuals with dreadlocks are being regarded as potential criminals and may face arrest along with having their hair forcibly removed.
The latest directive came after Mohammad Amore was fatally stabbed on April 20, 2025, along Angwan-Maiturare Road in Fadikpe. The incident occurred when members of a local vigilance group, which included the victim, tried to apprehend individuals consuming marijuana near a riverside.
A press release authorized by the Command’s Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Wasiu A. Abiodun, stated that further investigations conducted on April 22, 2025, around 10 PM, led to the arrest of the primary suspect, 23-year-old Abdurahman Nura from Katsina State. He resides in Fadikpe and works as a chocolatier at the main market in Minna, under Abdulkhadir Kure.
“The police previously detained Abdullahi Rabiu, who is 25 years old from Fadikpe, as well as someone from Katsina State; however, an eagle’s shoes were found in a wheelbarrow at the same Kure market,” said Minna.
During questioning, Nura reportedly admitted under interrogation as per the PPRO that he, along with Abdullahi and another individual who remains at large named Buhari, used to smoke marijuana by the riverbank during the wee hours of the night. It was then that they were unexpectedly confronted and apprehended by members of a vigilante group.
Late Amore held onto him, and in a desperate attempt to break free, she stabbed the deceased with a shoemaker’s needle near the left upper part of his chest, causing his death before assistance could arrive.
Initial inquiries indicate that Nura fled and made his way to Abuja; however, thanks to the assistance from local residents and family members, he was subsequently detained.
The police in its sustained raids and sting operations against miscreants and hoodlums also arrested 15 other suspects for various crime related offences, the statement further explained.
Items recovered during the raids mostly around Shango area, Chanchaga included dangerous weapons such as; cutlasses, sickle, scissors, Knife, clubs, cannabis and other related illicit drugs.
Meanwhile, Governor Mohammed Umar Bago has clarified the d7 to dawn curfew imposed on commercial motorcyclists and Tricycles operators, saying the government acted to safeguard lives and properties above individual conveniences.
While many see the restriction of movements within the specified hours as unjustifiable, Governor Bago in a statement signed by his Special Adviser (Print Media), Aisha Wakaso said, “Safety of lives and properties of Nigerlites are far more valuable than the short term disruption of whatever economic activities”.
Governor Bago soliciting for the support and cooperation of citizens, residents of Minna metropolis and environs in particular to stem sudden surge in security threats, also hinted that the police and other law enforcement agencies will take special interests on people with deadlocks and particular hair cuts in its bid to rid the state of criminals.
