Accra, April 23 – The Ghana News Agency reports that more than 45 athletes from ten nations will take part in the 2025 West African Bodybuilding Championships. This event is set to occur from April 25 to April 28 at the Bukom Boxing Arena.
The countries included were Nigeria, Niger, Togo, Ghana, Sierra Leone, Cameroon, Liberia, Côte d’Ivoire, Burkina Faso, and Democratic Republic of the Congo.
This esteemed competition seeks to gather elite bodybuilding talents from all over West Africa, encouraging solidarity among regions and boosting the development of sports throughout the continent.
Mr. Abdul Hayye Yartey, who serves as the President of the Ghana Bodybuilding and Fitness Association (GBFA), addressed the gathering during the event’s inauguration. He mentioned that the contest has experienced significant expansion since it began in 2022.
“Last year, around six countries registered for participation, but this number has increased to ten due to the growing appeal of the competition,” he stated.
He stated that the fourth IFBB West African Championship would mark the continent’s second professional-level Bodybuilding event, offering participants a chance at earning their Pro Cards.
The Pro Card in bodybuilding signifies reaching a significant milestone within the sport, providing athletes with entry into professional-level contests.
He stated that the Ghana Bodybuilding and Fitness Association, along with other nearby nations, was striving to transform the West African Championship into the largest bodybuilding competition on the continent.
Mr. Yartey mentioned that to encourage individual fitness, they would host an Aerobics Championship, acting as a precursor to the sub-regional event.
He warmly thanked Corporate Ghana for their assistance and urged Ghanaians to back the team.
Athletes are expected to arrive in Ghana on Thursday, 24th April,2025.
