On Wednesday, Mr. Wale Edun, who serves as both the Minister of Finance and the Coordinating Minister of the Economy for Nigeria, presented his country’s statement during the G-24 Ministerial Meeting held alongside the 2025 IMF and World Bank Spring meetings in Washington, D.C.

In a statement, Mohammed Manga, who serves as the Director of Information and Public Relations and acts as the First Vice-Chair of the G-24, highlighted that the Minister emphasized President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s firm dedication to implementing structural changes. These include eliminating fuel subsidies, consolidating foreign exchange rates, and overhauling the tax policies comprehensively.

He highlighted the administration’s emphasis on reinstating macroeconomic stability and developing a stronger, more inclusive economic framework.

The Minister urged the IMF and World Bank to incentivize economies focused on reforms—especially those located in Sub-Saharan Africa—by increasing their access to affordable funding and introducing more advanced tools to aid their transformations.

Edun similarly applauded the IMF for recently setting up a third chair focused on Sub-Saharan Africa and encouraged greater African participation at higher managerial positions within the World Bank and IMF. He emphasized this by saying, “Nigeria is ready for commerce.”
