At least eight workers from the Tangier Med 2 office of APM Terminals, an international shipping firm owned by Denmark-based group Maersk, have handed in their resignations. They did so as a form of protest against what they claim is the company’s role in delivering American-made weaponry to Israel.
According to exclusive information obtained by LinksToday.onlineAR, the resigning workers denounced what they described as “intense pressure” from the company, which they accuse of being complicit in supplying arms used in what they call the ongoing genocide against civilians in the Gaza Strip.
Informants at the harbor disclosed that two extra staff members have stepped down recently, mentioning the arrival of an American vessel allegedly carrying weaponry bound for Israel.
As per these reports, the shipment is anticipated to be moved onto Maersk-operated smaller ships for a direct journey to the Israeli port of Haifa over the next few days.
The workers claimed that the company attempted to coerce them into unloading the shipment, and when most refused, management allegedly handpicked long-serving employees—many of whom are not unionized—to carry out the task. The workers believe this move was designed to pressure or even force resignations.
The delivery of weapons via Tangier allegedly started in November following Spain’s decision to prohibit its ports from being utilized for these activities.
Many of those who resigned are said to be technical staff with access to detailed cargo information, and they accuse the company of using various tactics to obscure the contents and final destinations of the shipments, including altering cargo serial numbers.
Individuals who have resigned intend to take legal action against the firm, alleging workplace coercion and ethical breaches related to the contentious deliveries.
