– The former governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, has stated that there will be “no vacancy” at the Kogi State Government House, commonly referred to as Lugard House, during the 2027 gubernatorial elections.

On Wednesday, Bello stated this during a courtesy visit from members of the Kogi Central Journalists Guild (KOCJG) at his home in Abuja.

The previous governor showed strong faith in both the leadership abilities and achievements of his successor, Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, asserting that his accomplishments within slightly over one year in office are robust enough to guarantee him a second term with ease.

“Governor Ododo has demonstrated capability, foresight, and dedication to advancing Kogi State. Any individual contemplating challenging him in 2027 would merely be squandering their efforts and funds. Lugard House will remain occupied,” Bello declared firmly.

He commended Ododo for expanding upon the progress initiated during his own tenure, specifically highlighting advancements in infrastructure, living standards, and social services. “Ododo is picking up from where we left off, and residents of Kogi can observe this through improvements in road networks, health care facilities, and various essential fields,” he noted.

Regarding safety, Bello praised Ododo for taking decisive actions to deter criminals, even though the state has a precarious position adjacent to more than nine states spanning the Southeast and Southwest regions. “Safety is paramount, and Governor Ododo takes this very seriously,” he stated. “Thanks to his firm stand against illegal activities and lawbreakers, Kogi continues to be among the most secure states nowadays.”

In terms of agriculture, the ex-governor praised the present government for enhancing food production. He stated that the state is progressing towards self-sufficiency in food and could soon provide sustenance to nearby regions due to the distribution of agricultural equipment and high-quality seeds to local cultivators.

Bello finished his speech by urging all residents of Kogi State to back Governor Ododo, emphasizing that solidarity and shared effort are crucial for bringing greater benefits of democracy to the populace. “It’s vital that we all assist the governor in achieving further success. Advancing Kogi depends on our joint efforts,” he stated.

Given this robust support from the ex-governor, political analysts think that preparations for Governor Ododo’s potential re-election campaign in 2027 may be starting ahead of schedule, possibly even without opposition.
