Lt Vinay Narwal Honored: Military Funeral Held for Pahalgam Terror Attack Victim in Karnal

Karnal (Haryana), India – On Wednesday, Lt. Vinay Narwal received final tributes in his hometown of Karnal, Haryana. This included an official funeral procession accompanied by a gun salute before his burial service proceeded with complete military honors. The naval officer tragically lost his life during a terrorist assault in Pahalgam, located in Jammu and Kashmir.

The Haryana Chief Minister, Nawab Singh Saini, attended the funeral to honor the fallen soldier with his final tributes.

Addressing the press, Chief Minister Saini stated, “My purpose today is to honor Vinay Narwal and visit his relatives. The individuals responsible for this despicable act will face severe consequences… They will undergo rigorous actions from our side. Vinay Narwal exemplifies bravery… The Haryana government supports the family of Vinay Narwal.”

The casket of the Navy officer was covered with the Indian national flag to honor his dedication to the country. Afterward, the flag was ritually folded and handed over to the nearest relative, often accompanied by a respectful salute.

The military honors also comprised a traditional military burial, featuring a cannon salute.

When the officer’s remains reached the funeral or memorial location, the military ensemble performed somber music to honor the event.

The deceased officer’s body was subsequently cremated according to tradition and rites by his family members.

A large gathering assembled outside his home to honor the officer and have one last look at him.

Indian Navy Lt. Vinay Narwal had recently gotten married, with his wedding reception taking place just a few days prior on April 16.

Lieutenant Narwal, stationed in Kochi, was on leave in Jammu and Kashmir with his spouse when they came under attack from militants in Pahalgam.

In an earlier event of the day, a wreath-laying ceremony took place at the Cargo Terminal in Delhi prior to the transportation of his body back to his birthplace in Karnal.

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and Delhi BJP President Virendraa Sachdeva were present at the solemn ceremony to offer their final respects.

The grieving family members, along with close friends and relatives, came together to offer sincere tributes to the soldier.

During the dignified military service, the spouse of the departed naval officer shared a heartfelt goodbye, cherishing memories of her late partner as someone who led a life filled with integrity and bequeathed a heritage of bravery.

At the solemn funeral service celebrating her late husband’s life, as whispers faded into hushed silence and salutes were offered, his bereaved navy wife remained unconsolably steadfast.

Through her tears and as a mark of respect, she mustered her courage to speak some last words over the remnants of her dear one, expressing both grief and reverence.

“I wish his spirit may find eternal peace. He led a fulfilling life. He filled us with genuine pride, and we ought to maintain this sense of pride in all aspects,” she stated, her voice quivering with emotion as she succumbed to tears.

The event saw participation from fellow officers, family members, and officials who all showed respect for the courageous individual.

Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi, in a statement shared by the Indian Navy, expressed deep sorrow over the officer’s death.

In a post on X, the Indian Navy wrote, “Adm Dinesh K Tripathi, CNS, and all Personnel of the Indian Navy are shocked and deeply saddened by the tragic loss of Lt Vinay Narwal, who fell to the dastardly terror attack in Pahalgam. We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family during this moment of unimaginable grief.”

Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini earlier said, “The attack is extremely unfortunate. The more it is condemned, the less it is… The government is standing with the families of those who died in this moment of sadness. I will pray to God to give a place to their valiant souls in his feet….Strict action should be taken against those who committed this heinous incident, so that no one else thinks twice before considering such a thing.”

“This has been one of the biggest terror attacks after the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019. Following the terror attack, security forces have launched search operations on Wednesday to track down the terrorists responsible,” he said.

The incident has not only shaken the families of the victims but also sparked outrage across the country, as calls grow louder for swift justice and stronger counter-terror measures.

On Wednesday, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh conveyed his profound grief regarding the loss of innocent lives in the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. He affirmed that the government will take decisive actions and reaffirmed India’s steadfast position against terrorism.

“I wish to reaffirm India’s commitment to combat terrorism. Our stance is unequivocal—there is zero tolerance for terror activities… I would like to guarantee our fellow citizens that the administration will undertake all required measures. Not only will we ensure that those who carried out this incident face consequences, but also their accomplices backstage… The guilty will swiftly experience a strong and unmistakable reaction; please be assured of this,” stated ANI.
