On Wednesday, President Bola Tinubu called upon the National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu, along with the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa, for an important gathering at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
Around 3:00 p.m., the two top security officers reached the Villa and entered a private meeting with the President at his official home, as worries escalated regarding an increase in lethal assaults in the Middle Belt area, notably in Plateau and Benue states.
The crucial meeting takes place amid a wave of violent attacks by unknown perpetrators, which have resulted in dozens of deaths over the past three weeks.
Whole communities have been forced from their homes due to seemingly organized assaults on vulnerable rural areas.
Despite the scale of the carnage, security agencies have yet to announce any arrests, fuelling public outcry over the impunity surrounding the killings and the perceived lack of adequate response from the authorities.

In his latest statement, Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia blamed the renewed violence on foreign elements, claiming that the attackers “do not speak the language” of the local communities and suggesting an influx of armed outsiders as the cause of the deadly raids.
The security crisis has also drawn sharp criticism from civil society groups and lawmakers, who are calling for urgent and decisive action to protect vulnerable populations and restore peace in the region.
President Tinubu, after a recent personal trip to Europe, had earlier denounced the wave of violence in an official announcement.
The urgent gathering held on Wednesday with key national security officials indicates increasing worry among the upper echelons of power.
