The Moroccan Basketball Federation has declared a halt to the national championship for all levels and age groups because of a growing financial and administrative crisis that poses a threat to the functioning of the sport.
The Federation President, Mustapha Aourach, stated that although this decision is unfortunate, it was taken due to insurmountable conditions. “This suspension has been necessitated by severe financial difficulties that have persisted within the federation,” explained Aourach.

One of the issues mentioned was the end of the federation’s sports insurance policy following its failure to make premium payments. Additionally, Aourach charged the Ministry of Sports with holding back essential financial support.
“We haven’t received the second payment from last season’s grant or any funding for this season, which is nearly concluded,” he stated, describing the circumstance as a violation of the performance agreement between the ministry and the federation.
Aourach stated that the crisis has interfered with the preparation of national teams and endangered the federation’s stability. He accused unspecified individuals or groups of either intentional or unintentional hindrance and expressed confusion over the ongoing postponements in sanctioning the federation’s general assembly.
In spite of the challenges, Aourach pointed out recent accomplishments such as Morocco’s consecutive qualification for the FIBA 3×3 World Cup and impressive performances in both youth and women’s tournaments.
He ended his statement by voicing his hope for an early resumption of the championship and committed to taking all required actions to return things to normal.
