The UNDP has commended Governor Dauda Lawal for his dedication to supplying matching funds for several initiatives aimed at improving the lives of Zamfara State residents.

On Wednesday, Ashraf Usman, who leads the UNDP office for North-West Nigeria, addressed the audience at the inauguration of the North-West Prevention Facility Project in Gusau.

He stated, “The efficiency, willingness, and resolve of the Zamfara State government are clear to everyone, which is essential for the collaboration.”

Thank you, Your Excellency, and congratulations on setting an exemplary standard for other state governments by providing matching funds for our initiatives. We appreciate your guidance.

According to a statement from Governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, the initiatives encompass the provision of irrigation tools to 300 agriculturists who were meticulously chosen based on their requirements.

The statement further noted that 1,000 entrepreneurs would be granted an initial funding of N150,000 per person, with the objective of converting their entrepreneurial concepts into successful businesses throughout Zamfara State.

During his speech, Governor Dauda Lawal mentioned that upon taking office, his administration launched various empowerment initiatives and generated opportunities to fulfill his rescue mission objectives.

He stated, “These initiatives are not standalone endeavors. They form part of our comprehensive plan for a thriving Zamfara State, aiming to involve development partners in tackling our various socioeconomic issues.”

“Many poverty reduction programmes introduced by this administration have impacted the lives of thousands of our citizens. Our administration’s commitment to poverty alleviation is unwavering.

We will keep utilizing strategic alliances with the UNDP and other funding bodies to develop sustainable routes aimed at elevating our community from poverty.

Since the beginning of this program, I emphasized that transparency and inclusiveness should be the criteria for selecting beneficiaries.

The recipients came from various locations including Sankalawa, Furfuri, Karal, Gusau, and Bungudu.

I have always stressed that economic empowerment should be inclusive within our jurisdiction, ensuring no community is left out. This is precisely why I advocated for the fair allocation of opportunities throughout every local government area.

Similarly, thorough training programs were conducted for all irrigation farming recipients and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). We strongly feel that supplying resources without imparting knowledge might restrict the sustained influence the program intends to have.

Governor Lawal further extended gratitude to the UNDP for believing in his administration’s shared vision for development.

Lawal stated, “To those who will benefit from this, I urge you to use these resources wisely. You must prove worthy of the trust I have invested in you.”

It is with great pleasure that I formally initiate the distribution of irrigation materials to 300 recipients and present startup capital totaling N150,000.00 to 1,000 business owners.
